Account Management:
Backup
Site
A very handy tool will allow you to download a backup of your site.
Although we have backups on site here, it is a handy feature. Along
with your regular website, you can also backup SQL databases,
aliases, and filters!
Site
Management:
File Manager
Allows you to modify the files in your website in real-time via a
web based interface. You can perform many commands such as chmod as
well as actually edit the file and save it directly to the web
server.
Index Manager
The index manager will allow you to turn indexes on or off for a
directory. If indexes are off, people will not be able to see what
files are in a directory that lacks an index file.
Custom Error Pages
This section lets you customize the errors that your users will see
instead of the generic server errors. You could setup a 404 page to
redirect users to your main web site instead of the default error
document.
Password Protect Directories
Web page protection is used to limit access to any directory to
users who enter a username/password. Helpful for parts of your site
you don't want anyone to see, or only want to grant access to
specific people.
HotLink Protection
Hotlinking is when another web site owner links directly to one or
more of your images or multimedia files and includes it on their
web page. Not only is this theft of your intellectual property, you
are paying for the bandwidth used by that site. cPanel can prevent Hotlinking by only allowing named sites (such as your own web site)
to access files on your site.
IP Deny Manager
This feature will allow you to block a range of IP addresses to
prevent them from accessing your site.
Redirect URLs
This will allow you to point a URL of your site to another URL.
Helpful when moving directories from one part of your site to
another.
Apache Handlers
A "handler" is an internal Apache representation of the action to
be performed when a file is called. Generally, files have implicit
handlers, based on the file type. Normally, all files are simply
served by the server, but certain file types are "handled"
separately.
Search Engine Submit
This tool allows you to submit your site to various search
engines.
Disk Usage Viewer
See how much disk space you are using in certain directories.
Mail Management:
The control
panel allows instant creation of POP3 email accounts, forwarders,
auto responders, blocks and aliases.
Add/Remove Accounts
This is where you create POP3 mailboxes for your domain. You can
have a mailbox for anyone@yourdomain.com
Catch All Address
A catch-all address will direct any mail to your domain without a
valid address to another mailbox. For example, if someone sends an
email to bob@yourdomain.com, it will be sent to you at your
catch-all address, even if no account for bob@yourdomain.com was
set up.
You can also set up :blackhole: to discard all
incoming unrouted mail (cuts back on spam!) or :fail: no such
address here to bounce it.
Auto Responders
An auto responder is an
automatic email generated to a sender when a certain email address
receives mail.
Block an Email - You can have the server
block mail from anyone.
E-Mail Forwarders
A forward account sends mail sent to anyone@yourdomain.com to an
offsite email address, such as you@earthlink.net or
you@aol.com.
Mailing Lists
Set up a list to send emails to a large group of subscribers. This
tool has many different configurations. Powered by Mailman.
Note: we do not allow unsolicited email (SPAM) on
our servers, it is a violation of our Terms of Service.
WebMail
Log in through a browser from any computer to check your domain
mail. Similar to Yahoo or Hotmail (without the spam!). Choose from
Horde Mail, SquirrelMail, or Round Cube.
Spam Assassin
Spam Assassin is an automated mail filter that uses a wide range of
heuristic algorithms on mail headers and message body text to
identify "SPAM" (unsolicited email). Once identified, the mail is
tagged as SPAM for later filtering using the user's desktop mail
client.
Trace an Email Address
Handy tool to trace the route of any email address.
Modify MX Entries
For advanced users only, who wish to route mail off of our
servers.
Domain
Management:
Subdomains
Allows you to set up subdomains (anything.yourdomain.com) that
point to directories (/anything) of the same name. Separate
statistics for all subdomains.
Parked Domains (if supported by your
plan)
Point more than one domain to your site. For example, you can point
yourdomain.com and yourdomain.net to the same site and use both
domains for web and email.
Note: please make sure to point all domains to the same name servers
as your main domain.
Addon Domains (if supported by your plan)
This is where you add additional domains to host under your
existing account. Depending on your plan, you could host up to
three of your domains on one account.
Statistics:
Website and FTP Access Stats
Provides access to many different programs that will analyze your
access logs and show you more information about your web sites
traffic. Included: Website Statistics, Webalizer Stats, Webalizer
Ftp Stats, Analog Stats, and Latest Visitors.
Raw Access Logs and Raw Log Manager
Download a record of all transfers that were requested by visitors
to your site.
Error Logs
This will show any errors, such as files, images, pages not
loading, and missing files.
FTP
Management:
FTP Manager
Accounts Used for managing access accounts to your web space. The
creation of an FTP account will allow users to log into a sub
directory from your main account without gaining access to your
main accounts. Sessions show any users that are currently logged
into your domain. Settings allow you to modify access to your
anonymous FTP site.
Databases:
Manage MySQL Database
This is where you set up your MySQL databases. Also included is
phpMyAdmin!
Advanced
Tools:
Cron Jobs
Some programs require you to
install a cron job on the server. The control panel automates these
tasks.
Network Tools
A few helpful tools like DNS lookup and traceroute.
Mime Types
A MIME type is what tells the web server that a .html document is a
web page, and that a .gif doc is a gif image etc. If you would like
to configure a custom MIME type, you would enter it here.
PGP Key Manager
Here is where you upload and manage PGP Keys used for PGP Mail.
CGI Scripts
We have numerous CGI scripts that have been
pre-installed on the server for you to use with your own
account.
Here are just a few pre-installed scripts:
Simple CGI Wrapper
This is a cgi wrapper that will allow you to run cgi scripts with
your userid.
Random HTML Generator
This is a random html generator. It picks a html string out of a
list and inserts it in an SSI enabled web page. This is useful for
"Quote of the Moment", and other similar things.
Simple Guestbook
This is a just a simple guestbook for your visitors to view and
sign
Advanced Guestbook
This is a more advanced guestbook which uses MySQL databases to
store your entries.
Counter, Clock, Countdown
This utility will create a real time java clock, counter, or
countdown for your site.
CGI Email
CGI Email can make nicely formatted forms output in email that has
been submitted over the web.
FormMail
FormMail-clone is a clone of Matt Wright's FormMail.
Entropy Search
Create a search engine for your own web site so your visitors can
search for keywords and find content on your site easily.
Entropy Banner
This feature allows you to create rotating banner ads.
Agora Shopping Cart
Build an online store using Agora, a simple easy to use Shopping
Cart software which can be installed on your server with the click
of a button. You may use the simple web-based interface to manage
the cart.
